If you have ginger and turmeric plants growing in your garden or farm, the rainy season demands extra care — and the right care at the right time can make all the difference. From weekly aloe vera treatments to completing earthing up before mid-month, this is a critical window for protecting your crop.
Fungal diseases and Cercospora leaf spot are among the biggest threats this season. Fortunately, bio-based solutions like Pseudomonas and Bacillus subtilis offer effective, sustainable protection — when applied correctly.

- ✅ Apply aloe vera juice and Panakam water once a week to ginger and turmeric plants.
- ✅ Complete earthing up of the plant bed before the middle of the month.
- ✅ Use Pseudomonas or Bacillus subtilis at the stem base to prevent fungal diseases.
- ✅ Spray Bacillus subtilis on leaves in the late evening (3–4 applications) for Cercospora control.
- ✅ Always add an adjuvant to Thalonil when using it as a fungicide.
You may have ginger and turmeric plants. If so, you can give them aloe vera juice mixed with water once a week. Also, Panakam water — mix and pour it on top of the plant. These natural inputs help strengthen plant immunity during the wet season when disease pressure is highest.
Apply aloe vera juice and Panakam water consistently every week — skipping applications during the rainy season can reduce their effectiveness as immune boosters for the plant.
The earthing up of the plant bed should be completed before the middle of this month. Earthing up improves drainage around the rhizomes, reduces waterlogging risk, and helps anchor the plants firmly — all of which are critical during heavy monsoon rains.
Delaying earthing up beyond mid-month increases the risk of rhizome rot and poor plant establishment. Complete this task as a priority during the first two weeks.
For the prevention of fungal diseases, mix 30 grams of Pseudomonas or 30 ml of Bacillus subtilis in one liter of water and apply it well at the base of the plant’s stem. This bio-fungicide approach targets soil-borne pathogens before they can enter and damage the rhizome.
- Prepare the mixture: dissolve 30 g of Pseudomonas or 30 ml of Bacillus subtilis in 1 litre of water.
- Stir well until evenly mixed.
- Apply the solution directly and thoroughly at the base of the plant’s stem.
- Repeat as needed during the high-risk monsoon period.

To prevent the Cercospora leaf spot disease which caused drying in the previous season, mix 30 grams of Bacillus subtilis in one liter of water and spray it on the leaves after the sun is less intense, with three to four applications.
Cercospora leaf spot causes characteristic drying and spotting on ginger and turmeric leaves. Left uncontrolled, it can significantly reduce photosynthesis and overall yield at harvest. Early-season bio-sprays are far more effective than corrective treatments later.
| Treatment | Target | Application Method | Dosage |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pseudomonas | Soil-borne fungal diseases | At stem base | 30 g / 1 litre water |
| Bacillus subtilis (stem base) | Soil-borne fungal diseases | At stem base | 30 ml / 1 litre water |
| Bacillus subtilis (leaf spray) | Cercospora leaf spot | Foliar spray (low sun) | 30 g / 1 litre water (3–4 times) |
| Thalonil + Adjuvant | Fungal leaf diseases | Foliar spray | As per label + adjuvant |
Along with the bio-fungicide sprays, do not forget to add an adjuvant to Thalonil. This is a recommendation based on its own fundamental principles — adjuvants improve the spreading, sticking, and absorption of the fungicide on the leaf surface, significantly boosting its effectiveness, especially during the rainy season when wash-off is a constant concern.
Never apply Thalonil without an adjuvant. Without it, the fungicide may fail to adhere properly to leaves in wet, rainy conditions — rendering the application largely ineffective.
The rainy season is the most critical period for ginger and turmeric cultivation. By incorporating weekly natural inputs like aloe vera juice and Panakam water, completing earthing up on time, and applying targeted bio-fungicides such as Pseudomonas and Bacillus subtilis, farmers can significantly reduce disease pressure and protect their crop.
The combination of Bacillus subtilis foliar sprays for Cercospora leaf spot prevention, paired with properly adjuvanted Thalonil, gives your plants the best possible defence through the season. Follow these steps consistently, and you will see a marked improvement in plant health and yield at harvest.
