The Vellanikkara Krishi Vigyan Kendra has found that by using the pseudostem injector, jointly developed by the Central Institute of Agricultural Engineering (CIAE) and the National Research Centre for Banana (NRC Banana), pesticides can be applied more effectively in smaller quantities against the stem borer — one of the most damaging pests affecting banana cultivation.
The pseudostem injector is a specially designed tool that allows farmers to deliver pesticides directly into the pseudostem of the banana plant. This targeted method ensures that the chemical reaches the pest more accurately while using significantly less pesticide compared to conventional spraying methods.
The tool was jointly developed by two reputed Indian agricultural research institutions — the Central Institute of Agricultural Engineering and the National Research Centre for Banana — making it a scientifically validated solution for banana pest management.
