Sajan’s Agri Solution startup to help those who don’t know farming
Sajan Baby from Mangalasseril, Puliyoor, Chengannur in Alappuzha district was previously a technical expert at a leading hospital in Thiruvalla. It was during the Covid period that he quit that job and became fully involved in agriculture.
Sajan says it was only after he started farming that he realized it was something that needed to be studied and done. What to plant, how to plant, what fertilizer to apply, when to water, how to handle each crop – there were many such issues.
A startup built to remove the obstacles in front of those who want to farm scientifically.
He started farming with the same confusion. However, the thought that agriculture should be studied scientifically became more convincing with each farming attempt. Anyway, the first attempt at farming was a failure. Subsequently, he earned more income by cultivating vegetables like yam, ginger, and banana.
He approached many people to learn banana cultivation scientifically. He contacted agricultural experts. He tried the various farming methods they suggested. Every experience became a lesson. He succeeded in many. The knowledge gained was successfully tested on his own farm.
Seeing Sajan’s enthusiasm and excellence in agriculture, and after some people in the neighborhood inquired if he could help them with farming, he realized the potential of contract farming.
💡 Key idea: Farming is a science. Sajan reminds us that success in farming can only be achieved if it is managed scientifically.
“All my children are abroad. The 2-acre plot was overgrown with weeds. Once Agri Solution was entrusted with the farming, the entire plot was filled with various types of crops. Now I am getting an income from farming. They also provide facilities to sell the products.”
Padmavathi Amma, Teacher (Rtd.), Ala, Chengannur
“It was after failing at cultivating my 5-acre land in Aranmula myself that I contacted Sajan’s Agri Solution. They have a package to scientifically plant and maintain crops of my choice on the 5 acres and generate a good income. They also provide maintenance.”
Prasad Thomas
“The desire to retire, return home, and take up farming came to fruition when we connected with Sajan. Now our farmlands are completely filled with various types of crops.”
Ravindran Nair, (Rtd. Naval Captain) Aranmula
With that, Sajan came to the idea of a startup to help those interested in agriculture. His previous experience selling and servicing medical equipment helped Sajan become an entrepreneur. That’s how the startup Agri Solution began.
As the name suggests, it removes the obstacles in front of those who want to farm. It is a system that plants, nurtures, and harvests crops for those who do not have the time or technical know-how for it.
The first step is to find landowners who are interested in cultivation. Sajan personally visits the farm and studies the structure of the land, the nature of the soil, water availability, and so on.
After that, he asks about the landowner’s interests. He will ask and understand what type of farming is needed, which crops to plant, and for how long the farming should be done.
As the next step, he will present a proposal to the landowner that incorporates scientific farming methods. A plan will be prepared by making changes according to the landowner’s needs.
Then, the land for farming is either leased or cultivated for a fixed amount. An agreement will also be prepared for this.
High-quality saplings and seeds are purchased from the Agricultural University, various research institutions, and reliable private nurseries. The next step is planting the saplings with basal manure. An irrigation system is also set up along with it.
The follow-up care and fertilization required for each crop are done under Sajan’s supervision according to the SOP (Standard Operating Procedure). He visits the farm every week, gives necessary instructions, and carries the farming forward.
Ravindran Nair and his wife Kanakavalli, who sought Sajan’s help to fulfill their dream of returning home and farming after retirement.
When farming is entrusted in this way, the landowner benefits in many ways. There is no need to search for laborers, arrange for machinery, or worry about what fertilizer to give or what pesticide to use.
- ✅ No need to search for laborers
- ✅ No need to arrange for machinery
- ✅ No confusion about fertilizer or pesticide
- ✅ Profitable marketing facilities at harvest time
At the time of harvest, Agri Solution also provides profitable marketing facilities for customers. Sajan says that only a reasonable amount is charged from the landowner for all these services.
This entrepreneur points out that if the ancillary expenses that would be incurred if the landowner farmed directly are calculated, Agri Solution’s service is a very profitable method.
Sajan is happy that he has already been able to set up farms in many places to turn coconut groves into integrated farms and fruit orchards.
